River’s End fishing tourney approaching From Facts staff reports The Facts

Approaching its 15th year, the annual River's End Volunteer Fire Department Fishing Tournament will be from Oct. 7 to 9.

Fishing starts at 12:01 a.m. and runs through 2 p.m. Oct. 9, with weigh-in and awards ceremony at the fire department at 12070 FM 2918 in Brazoria. The fundraiser has an adult and juvenile division with each one consisting of four categories: redfish, speckled trout, flounder and croaker.

The adult division fee is $35 with prizes first through third in each category. First prize is $100 and a plaque; second place is $50 and a plaque and third place gets $25 and a plaque. Adults can try for the redfish with the most spots and the heaviest stringer. A stringer must contain a speckled trout, redfish and flounder but cannot have more than five fish. Redfish only 20 to 27 inches can be included.

Entry for juveniles 16 years old and younger is $20 with the same categories as adults. First place receives a $50 gift certificate with a plaque; second place gets a $25 gift certificate and a plaque and third place gets a $10 gift certificate and a plaque.

There is also a $50 gift certificate and a plaque for the youth heaviest stringer with the same rules as the adult heavy stringer. Plaques will be given for largest hardhead, largest blue crab and largest sand/gulf trout.

Each paid entry will receive a T-shirt.

This is the third year with the Tim Austin Memorial Hard Luck tale to be awarded as well.

Weigh-in hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 8 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9. Fish can be caught anywhere in public waters, but must be weighed in at the River's End Volunteer Fire Dept.

Tournament applications along with tournament T-shirts, raffle tickets and meal tickets can be picked up at Bernard Grocery on FM 2611 at the Churchill Bridge this weekend or Stewart's Grocery in Brazoria, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1.

Anglers can register online at www.revfd.com.

At the fire department Oct. 8, there will be barbecue sandwiches and chips from noon to 2 p.m. for $7. There also will be a live auction at 1 p.m.

For women, there is going to be a Scentsy boot featuring a fireman's warmer by Connie Webb.

Raffle drawings Oct. 9 will be for a tapered aluminum flag pole with a 3-by-5 flag donated by Rick Gardner of Gardner and Martin; a silver chain with a custom silver jig head with ruby eyes donated by Kenzie & Co. Jewelers and a $400 Academy gift card donated by David and Tracy Woodall.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
