River’s End Volunteer Fire Department Cook-off fund-raiser planned for May 7-8
The eighth annual River’s End Volunteer Fire Department BBQ Cook-off fund-raiser will be held May 7– 8 at 12070 F.M. 2918. R.E.V.F.D. invites the public to come down for the food and family fun. Some of the best cookers on the Gulf Coast will be there!

Everyone is invited to join in the full weekend of fun and good food for a good cause. Open cooking (all day), Kid’s Hamburger Patty Cook-off (ages 5-9 or 10-13) begins at 11 a.m., an auction (1 p.m.) and will be held Saturday, May 7. Entry fee for the Kid’s Hamburger Patty Contest is $5, and parents/adults must supervise and provide patties and cooking area for the children.
Awards for the Kid’s Hamburger Cook-off will be presented during the auction. The department will also have a stuffed baked potato bar for a $7 donation on Saturday starting at noon until they are gone.
Sunday’s (May 8) activities include the cook-off contest judging and a BBQ plate lunch (brisket, chicken, sausage, home made potato salad, beans and a drink) available for $8 from noon until 2 p.m., or until the food is gone.
To-go plates will be available. There will also be a raffle drawing for a 20’ aluminum flag pole with a 3’ x 5’ flag, or a $200 Walmart "anything" gift card. Chances for the drawing will be available up until the drawing for a dollar a piece.
Cook-off teams can still enter, but their entry forms must be received before they start cooking. The entry fee is $25 per category entry (categories being brisket, ribs, chicken and beef fajitas).
Special activities for children are also planned. Moon walks will be available for children all day, both Saturday and Sunday.
