14th annual River’s End Volunteer Fire Dept. Fishing Tournament scheduled for Oct. 1-3
River’s End Volunteer Fire Department announces its 14th annual fishing tournament and the department’s largest fundraiser for the year the first weekend of October (Oct. 1-3).
The tournament begins at 12:01 a.m., Friday, Oct. 1, and runs through 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3, when final weights will be tallied, and prizes and the second annual Tim Austin Memorial Hard Luck Tale will be awarded.
Fish can be caught anywhere in public waters, but must be weighed in at the River’s End Volunteer Fire Dept. Station 1 located at 12070 F.M. 2918.
Tournament applications are available upon request by contacting: Tournament Chairman, Roy Edwards at (979) 964-4332, David Wineland at (979) 236-2480 or Kitty Handley at (979) 964-4260, and will be available at 12070 F.M. 2918 Thursday, Oct. 1 at 5: 30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3, from noon – 9 p.m. Applications and rules can also be downloaded from: www.revfd.com.

Tournament applications and T-shirts, raffle and meal tickets are available at Bernard and Churchill Groceries on F.M. 2611 at the Churchill Bridge the weekend of Sept. 25-26 or Stewart’s Grocery (in Brazoria) Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free T-shirts will be given to all paid entrants or can be purchased for $12 at the local stores mentioned above on the same weekends. New this year, you may also download entry forms, register, or register and pay online at www.revfd.com .
The Adult Division of the tournament ($35 entry fee) consists of four categories: Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Croaker. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for each category.
The 16 and Under Division ($20.00 registration fee) is designed to encourage more youngsters to fish.
If you don’t fish, you can come for the Saturday, Oct. 2 events at Station 1. Bar-B-Q sandwiches and chips will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. (or until they are gone) for a donation of $6. An auction will begin at 2 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. the final fish will be weighed in and prizes will be awarded. While the final fish tallies are taking place, anglers can tell their hard luck tales for a chance at the Tim Austin Memorial Hard Luck Tale award. Raffle drawings will also be held.for a 20’ tapered aluminum flag pole with a 3’ x 5’ flag, and a 14 Kt. red-gold redfish tail pendant with a black diamond "spot" in its tail.
