River’s End Volunteer Fire Department Cook-off set for May 1-2

The seventh annual River’s End Volunteer Fire Department BBQ Cook-off fund raiser will be held May 1-2 at 12070 F.M. 2918. R.E.V.F.D. invites the public to come down for the food and family fun.

Everyone is invited to join in the full weekend of fun and good food for a good cause. Open cooking (all day), an auction (1 p.m.) and a dance from 8 p.m. until midnight (featuring Anthony Smith) will be held Saturday, May 1. The department will also serve stuffed baked potatoes for a $7 donation on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. until they are gone.

Sunday’s (May 2) activities include the cook-off contest judging and a BBQ plate lunch (brisket, chicken, sausage, home made potato salad and beans and a drink) available for $7 from noon until 2 p.m., or until the food is gone. To-go plates will be available. There will be a raffle drawing.

Children’s activities also are planned. Moonwalks, donated by R.A.D. Party Rentals, will be available for children all day, Saturday and Sunday. New this year will be a Kid’s Hamburger Patty Cook-off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 2. Entry fee for this is $5.

Parents/adults must supervise and provide patties and cooking area for the children.

Cook-off teams can still enter, but their entry forms must be received before they start cooking. The entry fee is $25 per category entry (categories being brisket, ribs, chicken and beef fajitas).

For entry forms and more information, visit www.revfd.com or call Al Roth at (979) 235-0010 or Darrell Powell at (979) 964-4028.
